Christopher Ferguson

I was called to the Bar in 1979 having taken family law as a specialist subject, I then developed a practice based on crime and family law, ultimately specialising exclusively in family law. My extensive experience in private and public children law includes representing parents, extended family members, local authorities and children via guardians, including the Official Solicitor and the National Youth Advocacy Service.

Areas covered: Care proceedings, domestic abuse, child arrangement orders, including prohibited steps and specific issues.

My approach

Although known as a tenacious opponent, I have built a reputation for my caring and sensitive approach, as noted by solicitors and particularly vulnerable or sensitive clients. I try to provide a down to earth and straight forward service, to help remove some of the unnecessary mystery and confusion from family law, for the benefit of clients.

My work

My charges vary depending on the type of case, and for many cases I can provide a fixed-fee quotation which may reduce the hourly rate and offer better value. If you think I may be able to help, I can generally offer an initial consultation free of charge.

About me

In addition to practising as a barrister, I have organised and spoken in seminars on subjects such as contact, shared care arrangements, domestic abuse, the judicial interviewing of children, McKenzie friends, kinship care and the role of grandparents as alternative carers or in proceedings generally.

What my clients say

''...a vast improvement for my child’s sake and I am so grateful for that....I often think about the help and support you gave me and the great advice. I am not sure how I would have managed otherwise.' - Young mother, East Riding

'A safe pair of hands' - Chambers and Partners

'Thank you for everything you have done over the last few months, I know I wouldn’t have been able to get the result I have done without your help.'

"A helpful listener in Chambers and a good ally in court."

"He gave plenty of time for discussion at no extra cost, then at court showed a willingness to negotiate, but no fear of a contest."

"A sensitive listener who seemed thorough in his preparation and competence - and not as expensive as I had expected."

"I felt reassured just by discussing the case with him."
