About Catherine
Catherine Hewitt is a barrister who has specialised in family law for more than 16 years, representing clients in family finance, children and domestic violence injunction matters. She believes in fighting for her clients while recognising when an alternative approach, negotiation and settlement for the right outcome, better serves their interests, and she always advises in plain English rather than legal jargon.
She has expertise in high-value ancillary relief, advising and representing clients in complex matters involving tax, applications for financial remedies, business accounts, director and partnership liabilities, pension sharing, multiple properties, maintenance, pre-nuptial and separation agreements, injunctions to prevent the disposal of assets or to set aside transactions, setting aside orders for non-disclosure, and TOLATA claims between unmarried cohabitants.
She also acts in all manner of Children Act matters, from private law disputes to complex care cases, including those involving disputed medical evidence, fabricated or induced illness, shaking allegations, sexual abuse, an international element, cultural or religious issues and human rights issues. She has a keen interest in EU and international law and has represented many clients before the High Court in cases with an international element.
My approach
Catherine builds a close working relationship with her clients, who she regards as an important part of the legal team, and strikes up a good rapport quickly. She offers a free 30-minute case appraisal to understand the issue before formal engagement, and is clear about what she can do and what she expects from clients so that costs are kept down.
What clients say
I was reassured to take a barrister to court with me, Catherine was formidable in her presentation to the courtof the facts in my case. She always made time for me, listened to what I had to say and kept me informed along the way. RH 'I have been working with Catherine Hewitt for the past two months now, and she is really top-notch. She leaves the counsel I've had so far in the dust. Highly recommended.
