Mehtab Malhotra

Mehtab Malhotra is an experienced barrister specialising in Family Law and Immigration Law, with almost three decades of experience at the Bar.

Called to the Bar in 1996, Mehtab has developed extensive experience in advocacy, legal advice, negotiation and representation. She regularly deals with complex and sensitive cases where careful preparation, robust advocacy and an understanding of the individual circumstances of those involved are essential.

Her approach combines meticulous preparation and detailed legal analysis with clear, practical advice and effective advocacy. She understands that family and immigration proceedings can be highly stressful for clients and places considerable importance on ensuring that clients understand their position and are properly supported throughout their case.

Mehtab has extensive experience in Family Law, including Children Act proceedings, fact-finding hearings, Dispute Resolution Appointments and final hearings.

She has particular experience in children matters involving domestic abuse, allegations of parental alienation, vulnerable witnesses and complex factual disputes. She is accustomed to dealing with cases where emotions are heightened and where careful preparation, sensitive handling and robust advocacy are required.

Her accreditation in the cross-examination of vulnerable witnesses is particularly relevant to cases involving vulnerable parties and witnesses, where advocacy must be both effective and appropriately sensitive.

Mehtab also has extensive experience in Immigration Law, advising and representing clients in matters involving human rights, family applications, nationality, deportation, entry clearance, sponsored work and business applications, EEA matters, Administrative Reviews and appeals against Home Office decisions.

She also has experience in judicial review proceedings concerning Home Office decisions.

Mehtab is an accredited Advocacy Trainer and is accredited to cross-examine vulnerable witnesses.

Her advocacy practice is supported by extensive experience of court proceedings and by her background in training future barristers in advocacy, negotiation, conference skills and legal analysis.

Alongside her legal practice, Mehtab has a substantial background in legal education and professional training.

From 2006 to 2011, she worked part-time as a Senior Lecturer on a Bar training course, teaching and mentoring students preparing for a career at the Bar.
