Baldip Singh

Baldip is an International Family Law specialist who also practises in International Public Law and Human Rights. He has appeared at all levels of Court, up to the Supreme Court and The Court of Justice of the European Union. His practice spans all aspects of Family Law including Divorce, Children and Financial Remedies with a recognised expertise in cases with elements of international and immigration. He is often instructed in the most serious cases of child protection, which includes complex international, jurisdictional, and factual issues.

Baldip is committed in providing his services to individuals of ethnic minority backgrounds and low-income households, to ensure they have access to services and do not suffer through a lack of knowledge of their rights and or through an inability to express their needs effectively.

Family Finance & Property

Baldip provides advice and advocacy services in all aspects of divorce including financial remedies. He is well known for his sound advice backed by a keen commercial awareness. He is experienced in cases involving trusts, business assets, overseas assets, pension issues and cases in which third-party interests are involved. 

He is regularly instructed in complex cases and in cases involving high net worth individuals, with emphasis on cases where assets are aboard, with a niche interest in cases representing Equestrians. He is widely known as a very strong negotiator and a highly skilled advocate inside and out of court, with a fine eye for detail. He has an excellent track record of success at interim stages and contested final hearings. 

Child Arrangement

Baldip provides advice and representation on all issues relating to the care and upbringing of children arising because of a family breakdown.

He represented mothers, fathers, children, and other family members where there is a dispute in relation to child custody, arrangements for where the children should live or what time they should spend with each parent, specific issues such as schooling, medical treatment or religious upbringing or taking children aboard temporarily or permanently.

He has a wealth of experience in representing parties in complex and intractable disputes, parental alienation, abduction, adoption and in urgent cases requiring injunctions, wardship or involving the inherent jurisdiction of the courts and enforcement of orders relating to children’s arrangements when a party fails to comply with court orders.

Relocation Internal & Abroad

International relocation cases are widely regarded as some of the most complex and difficult matters to come before the Family Court. Baldip has a depth of expertise in international relocation and he is a trusted and safe pair of hands for his clients and his solicitors when such cases arise.

He understands that stakes can be incredibly high for the families involved and as such he provides compassionate advice combined with a robust and strategic approach to proceedings from the outset. He acts both for parents and children at first instance and also on appeal.

Child Abduction

A significant amount of Baldip’s work has an international element due to his extensive background in Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Laws. Baldip has a wealth of experience in all aspects of cross-border children cases, including child abduction cases (under the Hague Conventions 1980 and 1996 as well as under wardship); the recognition and enforcement of foreign orders; jurisdictional disputes; and, international contact disputes. He regularly appears in the High Court Family Division to deal with such cases.

Baldip has a significant international practice and has been instructed to assist in cases involving Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Libya and a number of countries in Asia including India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Molestation & Occupation

Baldip accepts instructions in domestic violence cases. Baldip is undergone extensive training and honed in his skills in dealing with vulnerable adults having previously worked with torture and persecuted victims, trafficked men, women and children. He represents parties in cases involving allegations of female genital mutilation and forced marriage cases, non-molestation orders and occupation orders on behalf of Applicants and Respondents. He is currently working with several focus groups and charities including the Department of Public Prosecution in developing a better understanding and guidance on Honour Based Violence cases. He has a reputation for being thorough, persuasive and highly effective.

Care & Supervision

Baldip’s Public Law practice covers all aspects of care proceedings and adoption. He acts for Local Authorities, parents, family members and Children’s Guardians in the complete range of Part IV proceedings, appearing in numerous lengthy fact-finding and final hearings lasting weeks appearing in appeals at all stages up to the Supreme Court.

He has been instructed in cases which involve factitious induced illness, sexual abuse, inflicted injury, death of a child, Wardship proceedings in Public Law, abduction during proceedings, Forced Marriage Protection Orders and honour-based violence as well as successfully contesting Care, Placement and Adoption Orders.

Baldip also appears in the National Deprivation of Liberty Courts (DOLS Court) known for his robust advice and creative solutions to best protect vulnerable young people in his cases. He advises authorities on their policies and procedures as well as on the evidence in individual cases.

About me

Baldip undertakes outreach work on national and international level. On a national level, Baldip established the 13 Community Clinic (13CC). The clinic is a grassroot initiative that provides support and guidance to the local community. The clinic is a collaboration of medical, legal and wellbeing experts, who work collectively to   make a genuine and practical change on local clinic users. Baldip oversees the operations and management of 20 monthly clinics, across the UK consisting of 150 volunteers.

He is also passionate about improving advocacy and resources for legal aid lawyers that work with vulnerable victims internationally. Baldip is a committed Advocacy Trainer and a member of the Inner Temple Bar Liaison Committee and the sits on the International Committee.  He was appointed to the Bar Council International Committee to continue the work he is doing in promoting the Rule of Law internationally.

Baldip is committed to promoting diversity and access to the Bar and legal profession often providing career talks at schools and universities. He also established The Sikhs in Law Association and now sits on the Executive Council.

As part of his many roles, he is regularly invited to speak at conferences, seminars, and workshops, to Local, National, International Government Departments, Universities, Bar Councils, and the Judiciary.
