What should barristers do when offered a lead by a potential direct access client?

1) Make contact quickly

  • People are impatient, and expect an immediate response, even if it is just to acknowledge receipt.
  • Give the client reassurance that they have reached someone who can help them, and as soon as you can contact them to introduce yourself.  The quicker you can start a dialogue, the better.
