UK Judicial Office releases a “Visitor’s Guide” to the judicial system of England and Wales

Everything you always wanted to know about the English legal system is published in a new “Visitor’s Guide” to the judicial system of England and Wales (which is the complete name of the jurisdiction).

The guide, written in clear and simple language, has everything from explanations of the court structure to the differences between civil and common law. It explains what tribunals and inquests are. The guide also tells us that the first professional judge was Martin de Pateshull, Archdeacon of Norfolk and Dean of St Paul’s, who was appointed in 1217.  There are many other anecdotes and curiosities.  A lot of thought and care has gone into it.

The guide will prove valuable for anyone who needs to know anything about the judicial system or who has been mystified by how courts work.
